Partly incorrect.  You can configure *an* external repository (that
is, one at a time), which is largely insufficient for serious use.

Well, up2date needs a dedicated XMLRPC-talking server, i.s.o. any
ordinary http/ftp repository that apt and yum need, which is *way*
more complex than setting up an apt/yum repository.

Another issue is the server load.  With apt and yum calculations
(e.g., dependency calculations) are done on the client, while
the up2date server seems to have much work serving client requests
(my experience with Current).

The total up2date architecture is much more powerfull than the
functionality of apt and yum, but Current only implement the
basic functionality, which means it doesn't offer more than apt
and yum.
