A word of warning though, the definition of "properly" varies somewhat
depending on which browsers one uses on which distro versions.
The current java-1.4.2-sun-plugin package from JPackage unconditionally
installs the gcc32 version of the plugin into
/usr/lib/mozilla-$mozversion/plugins, which means that it won't work for
example with RH9's Mozilla 1.2.1 or Galeon. The non-gcc32 would be
required for those browsers; ideas how to robustly package/detect which
version of the plugin is needed would be welcome, see
http://www.jpackage.org/contacts.php#lists
But since you mentioned Moz 1.4 on this list, I bet it should work for
you OOTB.
