At least hostap doesn't need kernel-sourcecode.

$ rpmbuild --rebuild --target i686 --define 'kernel 2.6.8-1.521' kernel-module-hostap-0.2.1-0.fdr.2.src.rpm

$ rpm -q kernel-sourcecode
package kernel-sourcecode is not installed

I was also just able to build the zaptel modules on the same system
with no problems. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the other modules
you mentioned build fine without "real" kernel source as well.

The only real problem here is how to handle the few of us who have to
build modules for all of the released kernels, since i386 and i686
versions of the same kernel conflict.
