ongoing quest for vmware on Fedora Core 1 with 2.6.1 kernel

I can confirm that not even the root user can run vmware with 2.6.1x
kernel. My kernel was built from the 2.6.1-1.37 SRC rpm.

Is this a Fedora problem or a vmware problem?
