gettext vs automake

What is the problem there? The suggested steps are succeeding here. But
it seems to be broken nevertheless:

| $ autoreconf -i -f
| aclocal: couldn't open directory `m4': No such file or directory
| autoreconf: aclocal failed with exit status: 1


automake-1.8.2-1
autoconf-2.59-2
gettext-0.12.1-1
