I have found that a simple way to speed up vte rendering considerably is
the use of bitmap (=non-AA) fonts. This might be common knowledge or
not. I think I heard pango being blamed in the past for such a large gap
in performance.

That said, the other improvements mentioned in the bugzilla report are
definitely worth an updated package after the FC3 release.
