gcc bug in fc 3

Not,not building with gcc4, sorry missed that, I only saw that the target fix
was gcc4.

It is interesting to note though that when I did a search for prdtoa.c I found
a note in some fedora release about porting a change from RH3.0

So it seems possible that the workaround got in at some point and maybe
it never was ported forward.

Any ideas?  Anyone?
