FC4 network slow?

Hello,

I just need a little advice for debugging this problem:

on a rather old laptop with a xircom pcmcia card, network file transfers are
extremely slow (via nfs or cifs mounts, top giving more than 90% wait states
all the time), whereas the same machine booted on knoppix (3.7, kernel 2.6.9)
works just fine.

I tried the latest FC4 2.6.11 and FC5 2.6.12 development kernels without
success...

Any ideas?
