Added 135 new packages, deleted 137 old in 8.43 seconds
(wait about 2 minutes with 100% CPU and some disk activity)

Athlon64 3200+ x86_64 1GB RAM

Not quite an hour, but that's a long time to get stuck with no visible 
indication of what's happening.
