status of up2date and rhn-applet

Thanks for pointing this out, I had a friend the other day
upgrade his box to FC4 (at my recommendation), and had trouble
using up2date. He couldn't figure out where the 3 was coming
from! I didn't look into the problem, I just suggested using
up2date instead. This is rather counterintuitive...
