The only argument I've heard against using 32-bit compat libraries on
64bit is the desire to reduce the footprint of installed apps to
preclude any security issues that may arise through them being
installed.  I don't buy it much myself, but there you go.  That said,
not all ISVs are willing to do the port/build to 64bits if their apps
can't benefit from being 64-bit themselves.  It only adds to the ISV's
devel and testing requirements for no noticable gain in marketshare.
Here's where pure open source software is a huge win, as we're not
beholden to an ISV to rebuild/retest on their schedule.
