I'm glad to dissapoint you -- seems that compiler and HotSpot VM are 
already in Subversion at https://openjdk.dev.java.net/source/browse/openjdk/

(Note: I haven't actually tried to check it out/compile, just browsed 
the repo... so I might be wrong assuming it's all you need to build 
these two ;-)
