When the "discussion" is driven by the misinformed and willfully
ignorant, spreading FUD and beating old horses so rotten and dead that
those with any clue are driven from the argument by the overwhelming
stench. Creating a pungent cesspool of stupid that draws in more raving
lunatics from every dark corner of the internet, building momentum and
spreading like a cancer that threatens to destroy the entire project.

Short answer: Not every "discussion" is productive.
