Well, at first sight this best seems to describe the problem:

The behavior was a bit confusing, but IIRC obscuring was the start
for several problems.  And sometimes the initial window stayed
blank too (not always, but that might be related to whether I
switched to other virtual desktops in the meantime).

If you want me to test something specific, I'll try do that tomorrow
when I'm having access again to a F9 testsystem.
