Or use xrestop, the non-destructive alternative :-)
On my machine just now I see that gnome-screensaver is using 160 MB of
X resources, which is excellent news - my screensaver is set to a
blank screen :-(
X may also mmap in chunks of video memory. This isn't "real" memory
usage, but appears under top and might confuse some people.
