Well, if you're updating at least every few days, you'll move to
branched automatically. The fedora-release package will shift you onto
branched.

What probably happened is that you didn't run updates during the two(?)
weeks that the fedora-release package in rawhide pointed at branched. So
by the time you next ran an update, you continued on rawhide.
