I'd be surprised if vino itself doesn't just work (XFCE uses Gtk and
GNOME libraries).  Unfortunately I don't have two desktops here,
otherwise I'd test it out for you ...

virt-top is 'top' for virtual machines.  Tiny program with many
powerful monitoring features, net stats, disk stats, logging, etc.
