It's not going to completely go away until such guests completely go
away.  People use virtualization precisely because it allows them to
continue to run very old operating systems.  Or even supported ones
like RHEL 6 (using grub1 until 2017-2020).

virt-top is 'top' for virtual machines.  Tiny program with many
powerful monitoring features, net stats, disk stats, logging, etc.
