Do you think this is a security risk and if not is it a bad UI?decision?

Let's be honest, non-masking in smartphones does not stem from any
security hinsight but from the cheer lack of reliability of virtual
keyboards.

(the worse case I know of is trying to type a 63-char wifi key on a
virtual keybord with non-familiar layout and masked input field)
