Do you think this is a security risk and if not is it a bad UI decision?

Right. Participants of a list for developers, who as a group are notorious 
for imperfect work, must be perfect handling their email.

Yes, it's a good goal to strive for, but public chastising those who fall 
short, and extending OT content simply, is not necessary, or desirable.
