Sure enough in configure.ac:

AC_INIT([XMLStarlet], [m4_esyscmd_s([git describe --tags --dirty])],

	[http://xmlstar.sourceforge.net/])

Thanks for the tip, Orion.  Seems I should add the BR to remove those
issues, even though they're cosmetic.
