Is it really so awful to ask a user:
"Do you want to expose Eclipse to the network ?" (of course worded in a
better way than my poor English skills can do).

I think users can understand such a question, and you do not need to
mention ports or TCP or firewalls even. It's just a question about
whether you really want to expose a specific service to a network, you
do it once and record it somewhere where a user can go back and tweak
the setting if they change their mind.
