1) As a Ruby developer, I typically don't care much about GDB
2) In days of virtualization, containers, vagrant, etc your runtime
environment is not necessary directly your development machine. I can
assure you that for example, I don't have gcc installed directly on my
system and it is just fine (although it might sound strange to some
parties).
