Kevin,

If you are unaware of the gains, ask for it.  Image based upgrades are very
common in cloud environments I work with.   It is used as alternative to
configuration management in some places and it is incredibly useful to be
able to deal with a consistent standard image and only provides deltas for
upgrades.  Chrome OS does that for example and it is used in some of the
most popular laptops in Amazon with millions of consumers.
