Hello Les,
I also have a Samsung Galaxy S5 mounted on Fedora 22 without issue
plugged on either both USB 2.0 and 3.0.
Few question to ask:
- Is your cable broken?
- Do you use the stock cable from your Galaxy S5?
- It sounds like you have a borked session so a clean reset may help.
