I have just the opposite view.  When I "cvs update" I don't like
seeing *any* output that looks to be an error message: especially one
such as "blah-blah-en?" because it looks as if CVS is confused.  The
#1 kernel coding rule is this: "If you don't get a warning message,
you don't have to decide to ignore it."
