Great point Eric.  Also, by way of getting new members accustomed to
life in an open source project...

Don't wait to be handed an assignment, show up and pitch in.  If you
don't hear about anything that suits your fancy, suggest something on
the list, and be prepared to explain why it's a good idea if someone
pushes back.

There's a great document Mike McGrath wrote up for the Infrastructure
team, but it applies equally well to just about any team in the Fedora
Project, and to varying degrees in free software in general:
