Nothing is from a strange source.  I didn't check 'rpm -qi' before following 
the rest of your instructions, so I can't be precise.

That solved many of them.  compat-db45 and libtar re-installed the fc10 
version, so I guess I can forget about them.

I used the same method to dis-associate kdebase and reinstall it.  Now dolphin 
is working again.  I'll file this tip for future reference.  Thanks
