Kmail/Akonadi forgets pop3 mail server password

If you get a password prompt from a mail client despite a saved password, 
that usually means that the connection attempt failed, so it's giving you a 
chance to fix your password just in case that that was the problem.

Mail servers can fail your connection attempts for several reasons: too 
frequent connections, some transient server-side issue, etc.
