I think Plasma 5 uses OpenGL (hardware accelerated) shell, this is why
display drivers have much more effect on it's stability (compared to KDE4)
For your laptop, if you have hybrid graphics, probably you can disable the
external GPU from the BIOS, this will give you better experience.
