Well that's really broken IMHO, the whole point of fontconfig is to create a
patchwork from different fonts with different characteristics, it can't work if
one can't set characteristics for each of those bits separately.

(and BTW even font-file level granularity is too coarse, current fonts are huge
an uneaven, theyr really want intra-font-file tweaking)
