 Another option is flying to Mumbai then travelling to Pune by train.

 It costs much cheaper: under $500 for return flight Hanoi - Mumbai - Hanoi
 + return train Mumbai - Pune - Mumbai; and the total travel time is mostly
 equal (just checked on cleartrip.com)

 I am fine to travel by train to save some money and give more
 opportunities to others. However, I am not sure it is convenience enough
 since I have never been to India. It would be much easier for me if there
 is someone guide me to (or even go with me)
