BTW, I'm on x86_64. Maybe it's an arch related issue.

Evening all

Just a quick email to those in the know.

I'm seeking an opensource combat flight sim for F13 (x86_64). Windows games
of the like are Battle Field 2 (flying with jets and heli's), M$ Combat
Flight Sim and Hawx 2.

I haven't managed to come across anything with graphics which are comparable
to these Windows games on any linux platform. My goal is to avoid going back
to a dual boot just got a game I might play once or twice a month.

I currently use X-Plane and dabble with FlightGear and the graphics are
quite reasonable, but the big thing I am looking for in such a game is team
dogfighting.

If someone has any recommendations and/or previous experience with these
kinds of games, I'd appreciate any suggest you might have.

thanks

Steve

I have hedgewars 0.9.14 ready to go for F14 (it's already in rawhide), but
the server part depends on ghc-logger (previously the logging stuff was
hacked out) which is a new package sitting in updates-testing. I can't
build the F14 hedgewars until ghc-hslogger reaches stable. If any of
you are capable of testing ghc-hslogger, please do so and provide appropriate
karma.
If we can't get further testing of ghc-hslogger, it will go into stable
on the 10th or 11th, with the freeze happing on the 12th. At which point
there will be little time to test hedewars. (Even if hedgewars were to
go in today, it would still need karma to go in before the freeze.) So
I'll also be looking for hedgewars testers, possible in a very short window.
I'll send another message when I have been able to do an F14 build.

You can request a buildroot override for it. Figure out what (Build)Requires
it (so that rel-eng can estimate the impact) and file a rel-eng ticket
asking for it to be tagged into the F-14 buildroot so that you can build
the new hedgewars. Then you can also add the new hedgewars to the some
bodhi ticket, pushing them at once, ensuring there are no dep problems:
https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/newticket

Hans

That was supposed to say 0.9.13, not 0.9.14. 0.9.14 has a preview out, but
hasn't been released yet.

Anyway 0.9.13 has been built for F14 and is available at:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/hedgewars-0.9.13-3.fc14

Appropriate karma feedback would be appreciated. Final freeze is on the 12th.

P.S.
I think I had a lot of 14s in my head (from blobwars update I was looking at,
the upcomin fedora release and the hedgewars preview release) when I wrote the
previous message.

If you're looking for the actual hash take a look in the same directory
as the iso for a file called "Fedora-14-i686-Live-Games-CHECKSUM"

For example:

http://mirror.karneval.cz/pub/linux/fedora-alt/spins/linux/releases/14/Spins/i686/Fedora-14-i686-Live-Games-CHECKSUM

glest upstream has been dead for a while now and really it should get replaced
by one or both of the related upstreams. There are follow on projects named
megaglest and glest advanced engine. I'd like to do one of these so we
can get some fixes. I don't know the code of glest well enough to do this
on my own with the dead version.
Megaglest seems like a more direct follow on, but the team may be small.
Glest Advanced Engine appears to be bigger (but I could be wrong) but was
a more radical change and when I looked in the past wasn't ready to be played.
It seems like it might be now.

Does anybody here follow upstream in either of these projects and have an
opinion of which would be better to try as a replacement for Fedora? (I
personally don't want to do both.)

I've made updates for the new Alien Arena 2011 game (7.50) for Fedora 13
and 14, because it is significantly improved over the previous build.
This is the first time in quite a while where this game hasn't been
buggy or overly glitchy for me, which is why I pushed it as an update.

Any and all testing is greatly appreciated.
