Hmm, sounds little a suspicious: all of
xmonad-core.x86_64, ghc-xmonad-contrib.x86_64 should
pull in libX11.x86_64.

Did you start from a minimal install or convert from a 32bit install
or something weird like that?

Could you please attach the relevant output from yum.log?
