Ah I see: if I then logout and change to US kbd layout
and login again then the gnome kbd applet shows "us,ru".
(Though no xkb toggle for changing layout,
eg Shift+Caps_Lock, defined.)

I think we need "XX,us" for all layouts that don't
provide Latin input, or maybe better checkboxes
in the gdm options layout widget to select multiple
layouts?
