Got it - there is an "[IM] reset" line and it indicates that ibus-m17n engine
instance is dissociated from minput context, and once switched to such a
situation ibus-m17n cannot continue working with preedit correctly. Never
tested but I guess that the old si-wijesekera.mim included in F-13 does not
signal reset.
Fortunately this is already addressed by the upstream change:

I'm closing this with a new package including the fix.
