This claim is incorrect. On 1.07.0-1, the following letters appear distinctly
ITALIC: U+0432 Ve, U+0433 Ghe, U+0433 De, U+0442 Te, U+0446 Tse, U+0448 Sha,
U+0449 Shcha. On the other hand, these appear distinctly SLANTED: U+0438 I,
U+0439 Short I, U+043F Pe. On 1.06, these were also ITALIC; they were replaced
by slanted forms when the bogus bug 708330 was “fixed”.

Therefore, when 708330 is reverted, Liberation Sans Italic will be a real
Italic, at least the Russian forms. It makes sense to also do the Serbian
Italic shapes.
