Yes, I'd ask to check your problem with another initial user account.
I wonder if you would save the wrong settings of other applications since I
cannot reproduce your problem.

Which gnome-shell or metacity is running on your desktop?
The default GNOME depends on the graphics card to use either GNOME 3 or Classic
GNOME.
