Ok, I would like to know more - some pointers would be useful.
Is it closer to kernel kbd handling?

I hear what you are saying and agree completely.  I think we have been 
aware of the problem but have not had the resources to address them yet. 
  We certainly have some things we need to learn from them.  I think 
this may be something that needs to be pushed higher up to FESCO or the 
Board, but together with L10N project I think we can help to lay the 
groundwork for that by providing good input, examples and ideas.
