Comment (by khaytsus):

First thing I'd like to address is scope... If all 500+ users in #fedora
had their clients set to autoaway messages and/or nick changes, it'd be a
horrid mess of noise in the channel. This is the entire point of the
reason to ask people not to change their nicks needlessly.

You changed your nick once, I don't think a ban would have been
appropriate, nor was one given. What was given was only a simple warning
that if you had set up some sort of auto-away nick changing configuration
you would wind up banned because of it.

You mention the FAQ does not "reflect this", but I think it's fairly
 clear.

 Nick Changes

Similar to Away Messages, changing your nick repeatedly is annoying and
creates needless noise in the channel. Changing your nick infrequently is
fine, but playing games with your nick in the channel is not acceptable
 and inconsiderate.

Does it really need to specifically say "You may be banned" when it says
it is "not acceptable" ? IMO not really. Like most things, abuse of
anything can lead to action, but doesn't necessarily have to be called out
 for every possible thing.

So again; a simple warning was given in case your client was set for
automatically changing nicks. It's fine for you to not like the warning,
and always fine to log feedback, but you must also acknowledge the
extremely minor severity of this and realize there's likely no policy
change necessary for this sort of thing.
