pdfbox upstream made it possible to easily build without these deps, so I've 
made that change in rawhide.  However, pdfbox is now FTBFS due to the 
bouncycastle 1.50 update.  I've filed 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1100445 for now, but I'm not 
putting any more effort into this for now.  Bugs have been filed upstream, but 
no movement yet.

I'd love to hand this package over to someone else...
