after screen-saver engages, brightness gets turned down

Once screensaver engages, when I tap a key to wake up the machine, it comes up 
at 50% brightness (that's a guess, but it's close); I have to click on the 
PowerDevil icon and move the brightness slider slightly, then move it back to 
maximum brightness to restore my regular level. Any one else seeing this?
