Needing help with display problems

The vesa driver is the culprit, I doubt it can do any resolutions other than 
those standard ones, as reported by xrandr.

You need to find out the model of the graphics card, and use more appropriate 
driver. Did you try the regular intel driver? What does

Xorg -configure

detect?
