lost sound subsystem again

Hi there,

Has anyone experienced losing their sound subsystem from an update in
the last couple of days? By verifying loss of sound subsystem, I
checked by:

- going into 'System Settings' -> 'Multimedia' -> 'Audio Output' -> <any entry>
- selecting the only non-greyed out selection-item on the right
(titled 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' for me)
- selecting 'Test'
result: no output

'sudo tail -f /var/log/messages' produces only a message about
'ratelimit.c' coming from pulseaudio as I hit the 'Test' button in
each entry under 'Audio Output':

Before I go downgrading my packages, I thought I'd see if anyone else
on this list has experienced the same and can pinpoint the problem
package faster.
