ktts borken?

Hi there,

after trying everything I've read on

http://accessibility.kde.org/developer/kttsd/
http://docs.kde.org/development/en/kdeaccessibility/kttsd/index.html

I have the feeling KTTS is completely broken on KDE 4.4.
I've got everything listed on 
http://accessibility.kde.org/developer/kttsd/#requirements
together with several speakers, but I can't make it work (the talkers are not 
even listed nor can be added). 

Could anyone make this work?

My set up:
qt-4.6.2-1.fc12.x86_64
kdeaccessibility-4.4.0-1.fc12.x86_64
espeak-1.40.02-3.fc12.x86_64
festival-1.96-16.fc12.x86_64
