Fedora 16 KDE spin questions

Hello Ed and TC,

Being new to this list, and having not used one prior, I was
unfamiliar with protocol regarding replying to all. Thanks for
straightening me out on this! This reply is to all.

Regarding the Smart Test results from the Konsole, I notice 5 returns
that say "Pre-Fail", and 16 that say "Old Age". With 5,868 Power-On
hours on the laptop's hard disc (all "in use" hours, as I don't leave
the computer on when not in use), should I be concerned about imminent
disk failure at this point? Do those "Pre-Fail" messages indicate the
disc is close to failure? Or should I just keep using this machine,
backing up continuously, and get as much mileage out of it as I can?
The slow start times with LibreOffice still have me baffled, but I can
adapt.

I always use the laptop on hard surfaces and do not block the cooling
vents. I have not checked inside regarding dust yet. I am really
enjoying the KDE spin of Fedora! I am happy I switched from the Gnome
desktop, which I used to love, but has now become  too convoluted for
me when attempting to manage simple tasks quickly (reminds me of the
Apple OSX desktop somewhat, where it requires extra clicks or
shortcuts to do simply navigation).

Anyway, thanks again for your quick response to my queries! All I need
to know now is if I should get a new laptop with a solid state drive
to replace this aging mechanical drive. Take care for now ...
