Suspicion regarding the kmail "Retrieving Folder Contents - Please wait ..." problem

Sounds like maybe this was causing my problems too.  But after making the 
change, I have another problem, which is when I start kmail, now I get:

fetch job error: unable to fetch item from backend

While kmail appears to be trying to update inbox.
