odd behavior while create a new file -> unwanted extension added

Is this specific to KDE 4.12? I can't seem to reproduce it with KDE 4.11
with either Dolphin or Konqueror.

I vaguely remember having the same or a similar problem some time back and
a KDE bug report about it.

Anyway, rather than argue here, I think one should file a bug report with
KDE. That'd be more useful to have this resolved.
