The only Free Software plugin to view PDFs embedded in Firefox is KDE-based 
though. :-) (It's called kpartsplugin and can embed Okular.) That's 
apparently what he's using.

Now whether the breakage is Firefox's or kpartsplugin's fault is another 
question.
