Just make /var/tmp/livecd-tools a symlink into free space. Problem
solved.

I'm not sure why you think it's a good idea to rewrite my python code
into perl in the first place.

Sure, options are sometimes really easy to add, but, in general it's
very easy not to realize the cost of options / preferences. Havoc's
article detail that aspect.
